Go Ahead Break that Resolution, or better yet don't start one.

Well tonight it is the last day of the last month of this year.

Good Riddance.

Big deal!

"What are you going to do for New Year's?" is a question that is asked by many this week.

My answer is usually about the same for each person asking.

Probably in bed by 10, sleeping, that's about it. If I feel really wild and crazy, maybe watch the parting people in Times Square go wacky on the TV around 9 or 10 and go to bed......

"Oh how boring"

"What about your New Year's Resolutions?"
What about them, I don't make any......

What is the preoccupation of thinking that a New Year is somehow going to make you do things that you never seem to accomplish other days or months of the year?

"Oh, I am going to lose of few pounds" or " I will read more" or "I will get up early and exercise"

Oh, come on , give me a break.

If people really wanted to do that stuff they would already be doing it. Maybe that is the reason that all these good intentions fizzle out after a day or two anyway.

If you really wanted to shed a few pounds or save some extra money, you would already be doing it.

So stop the crap and quit fooling yourself, or is it that you just want to sound cool to your friends by having something you have good intentions about doing.

How about just promising to yourself that you won't BS yourself and actually just do it.

If you say that you are going to lose a few pounds, starting the 1 st of the year, then you are doomed for failure. If you were serious, you wouldn't need a date to start, you would have already resigned yourself in doing it the moment you made that decision...plain and simple.

Besides we live in a place that there are no interesting things to do or see, no big band celebrations, no dressing up to go our parting, other than showing up at a restaurant, paying 3 times more than the food is worth, listening to some thrown together trio playing off tune dance music, drinking some God awful cheap sparkling wine and generally wanting to go home 6 minutes after midnight......
Now, if we were in a big city, with a classy dance band, other people who enjoy dressing up, having a table with your friends to have a good reason to party......now that's a reason.....

Or maybe if we were on a nice cruise ship, on it's final voyage before being scrapped, sailing on New Years Eve, and getting an invitation to have dinner at the captains table. Joining you that night are a retired detective Lieutenant Mike Rogo, and his former-prostitute wife Linda, Frank Scott, a minister questioning his faith and believing God helps those who help themselves, a retired Jewish hardware store owner Manny Rose and his wife Belle and Haberdasher James Marin.......

A no thank you, I already know how that evening is going to end.....

So anyway, Happy New Year to you and your family, make the first day of the month, be what you want, do what you want, do what you enjoy, make a difference to others , just because you can, and don't be too grumpy.

Cheers!
