Hop , Skip and a jump.

How's the beach? is asked a lot and my usual answer is , sandy...

We don't live by the beach, we are in the mountains and the closest beach is 130 miles as the crow flies.

If you drive it, it is about 180 miles, or 305km to be exact.

Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo are the towns that are closest beach resort areas to us.

We got a call from some friends last Wednesday saying that they were flying into Zihua on Thursday.

Ixtapa is the big new development that was created as a tourist magnet the same time Cancun was done on the east coast. Iztapa is all high rise hotels, all crammed next to each other, golf courses, time shares, touristy restaurants and night clubs.

On the other side of the hill, is Zihuatanejo, which as a sleepy little town but now is growing, but the best thing is that it still has the small village charm and the hotels are all low rise, or hanging on the sides of the hills, all relatively small boutique properties.

We haven't seen them for about 15 years, so we decided to toss a few things into the new Honda, the dogs, a small cooler, the Kindle and head west.

When we left the temperature at the house was 24 degrees C or 75 F. As we drove down to the coast we hit temps all the way up to 104 and arriving in Zihuatanejo in the mid to high 80's.

A 30 degree temperature swing between the mountains and sea.

It took us almost 4 hours, which will soon be about 3 and a half since they are working on the last 50 mile stretch making it into a superhighway instead of a 2 lane road.

The weather in Zihuatanejo was a pleasant breezy high 80's which is perfect especially having a pool to toss one's self into. Our friends from Chicago, happen to advise us that they put a down payment on a 1600 sq foot condo which was due to be finished in the next year or so....

Now......I wonder if I'll be able to let them have me check it out for them every 3 months or so?
Sort of a part time caretaker.
