My kind of sanity..........

We crossed the border from fantasy land, land of 500 dollar wrong lane tickets, land of paper or plastic choice at a organic grocery store, land of not wanting to offend anyone in the guise of political correctness, land of not having any losers or winners should little Johnny not have his self esteem for not trying hard enough or simply that he has parents that have really spoiled him by being his friends.....

The land where, Johnny can't get a job or interact in the real world

But he will feel good about it.

Meanwhile down here, you don't work, you will starve, so there are many employment opportunities, even if it is jumping in the way of a stopping car to wash the dried carcasses of bugs on the window, you somehow get income.

Somehow , in my perception at least Mexico is a country of contrasts, good , bad and ugly, but a lot more honest or should I say Reality World .

There are no expectations that one has here that are false so in a sense it is a more honest world reality wise.
People that come here thinking that it is a wonderful land with no issues are walking around in a fog, since the only way they actually see real Mexico, the Mexico that I love is seeing it in the back streets, the little towns and the people that will extort additional pesos from you if given a chance more often than not,
Not that there is anything wrong with that, especially since it is a way of life, nurtured and honed from generation to generation.

It's your job if you decided to except it to simply survive knowing that all is what it is, good, bad, ugly and very often beautiful.

I am not here to convince you to "come on down" if fact quite the opposite. Most NOB residents can only understand and take this land two weeks at a time, serenaded by roving Mariachi and bombarded by beach and street merchants.

Try getting electricity turned on or phone service from Telmex to understand just part of the realization of the "real Mexico"

Nothing wrong with it, it's just different........
Not that there's anything wrong with different, mind you.
But , I can be wrong too.

There are zones that Americans have adapted to or better yet, the zones have adapted to the Gringo dollar, strictly motivated by the need for income.

There are a few in the land, the real trick if you really want Mexico is to find a pueblo or even a Colonial City devoid of tourism for the most part and dig yourself in.

But what would be the fun in that?

Glad to be back.....

I will be joining you soon -- in early November. I just booked my return flight. With a detour to the bloggers' conference. Are you going?

Yes, as I sat in traffic in Guadalajara today, it made me happy to be back where if you ask to cut in front of someone they will let you, instead of shooting at you.....
Steve...While having dinner with Nancy and Paul in Mazatlan the other night, we discussed it, and I am considering it, especially since neither myself or my wife have ever been in Merida... I will know in a few weeks....
Well Felipe, I knew that it would strike a warm spot in your heart, especially since we have seen so many "help wanted" signs all over....
