Aahh the smell of the ocean , the mist, the spray..

One reason we did not come here was for fear of weather.
I have always wanted to fly to Florida or the Keys, (yes I know they are also in Florida) to be in a nice secure concrete block hotel room with nice thick windows or storm windows and experience at least once a hurricane.

The news today says that Mexico, at least first Los Cabos is going to be hit with a doozy.

Hurricane Rick, or should it be Ricardo, yeah thats it Ricky Ricardo.....
Huumm, so was Ricky Ricardo, just Ricky Ricky or Ricardo Ricardo and to his friends Ricky Ricardo........
Heeeellllloooo Lucy, I'm home....

Anyway, the report says that winds are expected to exceed 150 miles per hour, and it is being classified as a level 5 hurricane. That's a big wind storm...

It also says that it may hit Mazatlan and the main coast.

If it was going to be lower, I think I would venture to Lazaro Cardenas or Zihuatanejo and check it out.
If my wife, lets me.
Hope it peeters out for the residents,
But I still would like to see one.

Connie,
If you go to see the hurricane and it totally blows you away can I have the cow?

Sure, you can have the steaks....
I have to find a real heavy concrete hotel.....

Yesterday afternoon and night we had ferocious winds here. There was a cacophanous banging of metal gates much of the night.

(The new power and light poles rode out the storm.)

I wonder if that blast was related to Hurricane Ricky?

Saludos,
Don Cuevas

C'mon over. You're welcome to ride it out with us.

Don Cuevas, I think the winds you had last night were just some "hot air" from residents in Patzcuaro...If it was the storm, today would be awful. As it is now I am in my shorts, sans shirt doing some reading on the back patio.
Nancy..
If we were closer, and it didn't take a real full day of driving, I would take you up on it!
Your house has survived massive storms before, and it would be the ideal place to sit and wonder of natures true power!
And gossip!

The winds yesterday indeed were from Ricky.

We had a lot of heavy rain over the weekend - no wind. This is not uncommon here ;-)

Stay home and be safe amigo - you don't need to add storm chaser to your resume.

Constantino - honestly, one thing you DO NOT want to do is be in a Hurricane. I've been through Andrew in Miami Fla, and Bertha & Fran here in Raleigh NC. Keep sitting on the back porch reading and safe.. you might want to grill a pizza or 2 while you are at it! :-)
Regards,
Dan in NC

Ok, Dan. I will have to relinquish to someone who has had some experience. It is one of those wonders of nature that I have always be curious about, and at my age, I don't have too many things that arouse my curiosity.....
I had my pizza quota for this month, but it sounds like November is calling for a nice one with only Basil and Anchovies......

Dan is right. I take it, Constantino, that you have never been in a direct-hit, powerful hurricane. I have, just once. Betsy in New Orleans in 1969.

I know you were talking in jest, but lots of people actually think it might be a fun idea to head toward a hurricane.

I´ve long believed this notion is encouraged by what one sees on TV news shows of hurricanes. Usually it´s some road signs being batted about, or some trash blowing fast down the street.

Those scenes don´t begin to show what the middle of a real hurricane is like. I´ve never seen TV footage that realistically shows what the middle (and I don´t mean the eye) of a monster storm is like. And you know why that is? Nobody in his right mind goes even near a window with a camera in the middle of one. It´s that bad.

It´s like the end of the world. You don´t want to search it out. I hope I never see one again.

You as usual have brought to view some reality to my boring life. I use to see live feeds of new feeds via satellite and they looked interesting. But based on the devastation they bring along, maybe a strong monsoon will be more my speed.....
