post scriptum

Being single for several weeks while my wife visits her family in Honduras gives me plenty of time to sit around, read, listen to music in between the chores of taking care of business that I ignored awhile ago when other priorities held me hostage.

I enjoy the time alone, but I am anxious to get back to the norm, so to speak of the interaction of someone who I sincerely appreciate.

Reading Felipe's blog this morning I am surprised of how close "Life Experiences" of matrimony mirror my own.

I can certainly relate to Felipe's writings for many reasons.
The thing that immediately popped into my mind this morning was a song that special moment to me every time I hear it and it describes my life extremely well is one that was written by Ervin Drake in 1961.

It was originally recorded by Bob Shane of the Kingston Trio and made famous by old Frankie....
I won't give you a link to the song, I am sure most of you know it, but the lyrics are priceless.

When I was seventeen it was a very good year.
It was a very good year for small town girls,
And soft summer nights. We'd hide from the lights,
On the village green, when I was seventeen.

When I was twenty-one it was a very good year.
It was a very good year for city girls,
Who lived up the stair, with all that perfumed hair,
And it came undone, when I was twenty-one.

When I was thirty-five it was a very good year.
It was a very good year for blue-blooded girls,
Of independent means. We'd ride in limousines.
Their chauffeurs would drive, when I was thirty-five.

But now the days are short, I'm in the autumn of the year.
And now I think of my life as vintage wine from fine old kegs.
From the brim to the dregs, it poured sweet and clear.
It was a very good year.

I can sympathize or share your mixed feelings at any rate...

My wife just left to stoke up the family fires in Switzerland.

I have been left to water the plants and deal with my fear of flying issues.

I have run out of things to do. The cleaning lady came by. It is a good thing. Now I can watch the bed linen drying in the back. What if it rains again? Egad......

EXCELLENT TUNE - Worked on a version of that song with David Axelrod and Lou Rawls. That was a good year - end of the 60's if memory serves. Axelrod was a mentor to me for a few amazing years and a amazing talent - Lou - well a bit grumpy but that golden voice wow! Thanks for the memory.

I guess you are feeling old my friend - not to worry enjoy each and every day.
