What light through window breaks........

I am guilty of sitting at the local Gringo hangout several days a week.

Not because I socialize, but because I am able to enjoy a decent fresh fruit plate with a dollop of cottage cheese adorned with little or as much I want of local honey, topped with several squeezes of lime for about $2.75 cents USD.

And I don't have to go to the market and find the correct ingredients.

Plus I don't have to section and prepare the fruit, cut and present on the plate, then later wash the dishes.

Some would relish at the idea of being able to do that.....

Don't get me wrong, I do that, but even then, I do need a break. And besides it gives me an opportunity to watch the people of Patzcuaro.

The other day I happen to notice someone standing at one of the balconies, a woman who was using the natural light in order to apply some layers of makeup. I have to assume it was layers, simply because I was her audience for about 15 minutes.

Enough time for me to enjoy, some papaya, mango, melon, banana with cottage cheese.

I am not a fast eater,... just for the record.

I savor, then watch, then sip the dark strong coffee, toss in a few more glances, pause and start the whole routine over again.

Watching people on the plaza could be a full time vocation, for some it is.

I am a part time watcher, though.

Anyway, she happened to pop in and out of the balcony about a dozen or more times enjoying the light that must have made her complexion all tuned up for her days performance.

But where could she be going to get all gussied up like that?
The mercado? The theater?
Perhaps meeting someone for lunch or a interlude at a roadside hotelito, the ones where you can purchase a romping space by the hour?

I pondered that for almost a full minute.

Then summoned my waiter and paid my check.

With tip , coffee and fruit included I laid down 45 pesos.

Watching the senorita on the balcony .....priceless.

Crap, that plate here costs a minimum of 8 or 9 dollars and the fruit is often inedible, and the quantity would be cut by 1/3 at least.
The only other place beside Mexico I have enjoyed fresh fruit is in Hawaii, haven't been there for awhile, but I will also bet you it won't be 3 or 4 bucks.
Lucky Guy!

Steve, When you get tired of standing in the shower all day, both inside the house and out, you can come over.... October is a nice month.

Jerry, my last visit the hotel we stayed at that plate, not as good was 16 bucks....makes me appreciate life down here. Yes, very lucky.

My old neighbor lady from when I was a kid was getting her mail at the post box while I was getting my folk's mail. I commented that she looked pretty good and her reply was Thanks, I work hard at it. Eighty plus and still working on looking good. Women, you have to love them.

Norm, One of the traits that I have always admired of Latin women is that they use to,more so than now, always went and got real spiffied up when they went out of the house. My wife is one of them, she would never even think of leaving without looking her best. I often find myself appreciating the beauty as you say even in older women who work at looking nice. Most women NOB you see in public, malls and even traveling on airplanes are in faded sweats and no makeup, and worse. I am sure my statement will open up a whole can of worms at this point. Women as you say, gotta love em! If you know what's good for you.....

Tancho; does your wife read your blog?

I know that besides being beautiful, she speaks and reads English perfectly.
Ten cuidado, amigo.

Saludos,
Don Cuevas

Sr. Cuevas, She does but not regular, I think she has enough of my ramblings not to have to read them too.
Now you have aroused my curiosity, what pray-tell have I written that has caused my foot to be jammed into my mouth?

I love it, Senor seldom reads the blog, but when he does he usually notices I have said a few things about him........
